2001 Hummer H1 6.5L Turbo Diesel V-8 engine

Description

Powered by a General Motors 6.5L Turbo Diesel V-8 engine and 4L80E automatic transmission, this Hummer makes an imposing impression with a deep, reflective, monochromatic black paint scheme, yet it also offers passengers a surprising amount of luxury inside with tan cloth upholstery and matching vinyl surfaces offset by black trim and componentry throughout. Air conditioning, cruise control, a heated windshield, supportive bucket seats for four and a Monsoon stereo system further enhance the comfortable surroundings, reminding easily that this is not the military-issue Humvee but a much more refined cousin tailored for civilian use. Equipped with the tow package, dual fuel tanks with dash-mounted crossover control, Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) and a front brush guard in matching black, this H1 wagon is the epitome of a go-anywhere, do-anything vehicle. Produced alongside the Humvees at AM General’s facility in Mishawaka, Indiana, the Hummer was produced from 1992 to 2006, with GM renaming the vehicle Hummer H1 to differentiate the military vehicle from the civilian version. Operation Desert Storm in the early 1990s brought the capabilities of the Humvee to the attention of motoring enthusiasts and the general public, who largely demanded a civilian version. AM General obliged by offering various body styles of the Hummer, including a convertible and pickup. The Hummer H1 was nearly as capable as the Humvee. The CTIS allows drivers to inflate or deflate tires depending upon the terrain requirements; H1s could cross water up to 30 inches deep, scale a 60-percent grade and climb over obstacles as high as 22 inches.
