Beneath the striped hood, the car’s vintage engine has been replaced by a Corvette’s 6.2L LS3 V-8. GM rated the Corvette’s LS3 at 430 HP, but modifications and tuning push this engine’s output to 525 HP. A 6-speed Tremec manual transmission channels that power to a Moser 12-bolt rear end filled with 3.73 gears and a Positraction unit. Among the upgrades to the Chevelle’s chassis are bright red UMI Performance sway bars front and rear, assured stopping power thanks to a Baer big-brake kit, and sure-footed handling courtesy of meaty BF Goodrich g-Force Comp-2 tires.
Inside the Chevelle, a black dashpad with red stitching matches a similar upholstery pattern on the powered Camaro ZL1 seats. The Tremec’s burly shift handle rises from a console between the bucket seats that also houses the power window switches. In the instrument panel is a full complement of Autometer Pro-Comp Ultra-Light gauges. While the Chevelle likely had a basic AM radio when it was new, its current occupants can enjoy rich sound from a Kenwood Professional-Series audio system controlled by a touchscreen mounted in the center of the dashboard.
