The talents there are Pontiac specialists turning out some of the finest cars in the hobby. This GTO Judge showcases their fine work, at the center of which is one of the best powerplants Pontiac produced for street-strip action. The Ram Air IV V-8 took the GTO to new heights of outlandish performance. Based on the earlier Ram Air II, the RAIV used a reinforced 4-bolt main block, forged internals, free-flowing round-port heads, an aluminum intake, cast-iron headers and one of the first computer-designed camshafts used in a production vehicle. It was all topped with that famous Ram Air intake system sealed to twin hood scoops, and was grossly underrated at 370 HP and 445 lb-ft of peak torque. Originally conceived as an entry-level car aimed at Plymouth’s budget Road Runner, the Judge reached production as a $332 package that included a rear spoiler, colorful graphics, untrimmed Rally II wheels with Firestone Wide Ovals and the special suspension, power steering and front disc brakes that made it the best-handling midsize machine of its era. This true Ram Air IV Judge is well equipped with a hood tach, bucket seats and center console, tinted windshield, Rally gauges, pushbutton radio and that cool factory Hurst T-handle shifter, and comes with restoration receipts and PHS documentation.
