The Firebird is powered by a massive, all aluminum 474 CI V-8 engine topped with Pontiac heads, an 800 CFM Edelbrock carburetor and an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, all breathing through a Flowmaster exhaust system, the entire package helping to build a whopping 550 HP. A TCI 700R4 automatic transmission channels all the power to the 9-inch Currie 35-spline axle rear end, diverting power to the rear wheels and Russell lines, and fittings look great and add a degree of confidence in durability. Rolling on American Racing wheels with Yokohama tires, the look and grip are muscular and outstanding. Keeping all that power in check are a Hotchkis suspension, Flaming River steering column and joints, and Baer brakes with hydroboost, all providing tight, accurate control. Lightweight Lizardskin ceramic insulation inside and underneath keep noise and heat outside where they belong while adding another level of protection.
The black interior features a nice balance of original and modern equipment such as a Quickshift shifter boot and pedals, air conditioning by Hot Rod Air, supportive Recaro front bucket seats, custom steering wheel and gauges, and a modern AM/FM stereo system.
