The car still retains the original drivetrain, most importantly its 302/290 HP small-block V-8. Based on a 4-bolt main block, the 302 was packed with everything needed to deliver breathtaking performance: a forged and Tuftrided steel crank and shot-peened connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, 11.0:1 compression, a high-lift, high-duration solid-lifter cam and a single Holley 780 CFM 4-barrel carburetor on an aluminum intake manifold. Available only with a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission, the Z28 also boasted special suspension, quick steering and heavy-duty cooling.
In 1969, Camaros could be had with optional 4-wheel power disc brakes; this option was offered for homologation in the SCCA’s Trans Am racing series. This example is equipped with JL8 components, including Delco Moraine 4-piston calipers. Additionally optioned with front and rear spoilers, tinted glass, power steering and a center console with U17 Special Instruments, it is also equipped with Firestone Sport Car 200 tires on Rally wheels. Awarded Silver in the Legends Class at the 2019 Camaro Nationals with a score of 4,483 of 5,000 points, this is a splendid example of what many enthusiasts consider to be the most complete performance Camaro of the classic muscle car era.
