Equipped from Ford with the Mustang heavy-duty suspension, Shelby handling was further enhanced by progressive-rate springs, Gabriel adjustable shock absorbers, a thicker front sway bar and 15-inch steel wheels with mag-look hubcaps. While the standard big-block Mustang came with a 390, Shelby’s GT500 stepped up to a 428 Police Interceptor, which was replaced in April 1968 by the 428 Cobra Jet for the GT500KR.
