The Muncie M22 4-speed manual transmission, G81 Positraction differential with hardened axles and u-joints; stiff F41 Special Front and Rear Suspension, and J56 Special Heavy Duty disc brakes with J50 power assist. Power accessories, radio and heater were off limits to the L88 buyer, “to cut down on weight and to discourage the car’s use on the street.” To maximize high-speed cooling, L88 Corvettes had no fan shroud. They also lacked a carburetor choke and were difficult to keep idling until brought up to operating temperature.
