This 1967 Marlboro Maroon, Larry Shinoda-designed drop top is a prime example of a factory Hot Rod. Resting between the frame rails is the venerable L71 427 CI V-8 laying down 435 HP and 460 lb-ft of torque, breathing through triple Holley carbs and exhaling through side exhaust. A Muncie 4-speed manual gearbox handles cog changes to the cast aluminum wheels wrapped in redline tires. Menacing is the best way to describe the look of the ‘67 with its black-topped air intake and stinger with 427 callouts, wide-boxed grille with chrome bumperettes, side gills and aforementioned side exhaust.
Dropping the black convertible top reveals the Corvette’s black cockpit as all business with large round gauges, a chrome ball shifter and wood-trimmed steering wheel, making the driver feel at home on the street as well as Riverside Raceway. Dual bucket seats keep occupants in place while cornering, a Soft Ray-tinted windshield helps quell glare, and the Delco AM/FM radio adds tunes to the cabin. Then again, with a 427 rumbling under the hood, who needs music anyways.
