Exterior changes by this point in the Corvette’s evolution were mostly predictable. The front grille insert was replaced with a plated, square mesh piece; a new vertical chromed Corvette script was added to the leading edge of the hood, and new lower sill trim panels featured extra ribbing. Backup lights became standard equipment and were integrated into the inner two tail lights. Additionally, the roof B-pillar vents that had been both functional and non-functional in past years were eliminated, and the 3-speed ventilation system motor along with them. Buyers could still choose the optional cast aluminum finned knock-off wheels, which were now painted dark gray between the fins. Early in 1966 production, Chevrolet replaced the fiberboard headliners in coupes and auxiliary hardtops with foam-backed vinyl and added headrests to the option list. For the first time, Holley carburetors were used on every engine in the Corvette lineup, including this example’s 327/300 HP V-8, which has been trimmed with finned aluminum valve covers. Matching its Tuxedo Black paint with a black interior, this extra-clean 1966 Sting Ray coupe features an automatic transmission with a custom wood shift knob, air conditioning, tinted glass, a Delco AM/FM radio and goldline tires on knock-off wheels.
