The true rarity of this Tiger Gold GTO convertible is verified in both its PHS documentation, which notes that the car came with special Code 2, and on its data tag located under the hood on the cowl. This special paint notation proves that this GTO was finished at the factory in a color not normally offered to the public. That color was of course, Tiger Gold. The 1965 GTO received new-design cylinder heads with freer-flowing ports and revised intake manifolds. The base 4-barrel gained 10 HP, up to 335, while the Tri-Power version of the 389 gained 12 HP, up to 360 at 5,200 RPM with 424 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 with a 10.75:1 compression ratio. To many enthusiasts, the 1965 is the “ultimate” GTO, the first year to receive the iconic Pontiac stacked-headlamp treatment and featuring the upgraded 360 HP version of the 389.
