One of only 7,272 1965 Mustangs ordered with the K-code small-block, the 22,900-mile fastback is powered by the legendary 289 Hi-Po engine that generates a high-revving 271 HP thanks to its solid-lifter camshaft, high-flow exhaust manifolds, dual-point distributor and 595 CFM 4-barrel carburetor topped by an open-element air cleaner. Capable of more than 6,000 RPM, the Hi-Po engine also came with a reciprocating assembly strengthened by a hardened-tested crankshaft, thicker main-bearing caps and larger rod bolts. Optioned with the GT Equipment Group, the fastback is packaged with grille-mounted fog lights, rocker-panel stripes, a GT gas cap, quick-ratio steering and trumpet exhaust tips extending through the rear valance panel. While most early Mustang interiors were a solid color, this one has the rare white and red combination, made even more striking with the Décor Interior Group’s wood-grain trim, molded door panels with courtesy lights, 3-spoke steering wheel with wood rim, and uniquely shaped bucket seats with embossed running horses in the seat backs.
