Transistorized ignition
Aluminized off-road exhaust

The L78 was a detuned version of the 427 CI racing engine first seen at Daytona in early 1963; to counter its remarkable output, Delco engineering staff had worked with several suppliers to develop a disc-brake system specifically suited to Corvette design parameters rather than adapting an existing design. Together, these new developments redefined the Corvette image. One of 2,167 L78 Corvettes built in the only year of L78 production (all big-block engines were amped up to 427 CI in 1966), this convertible was well equipped with a Muncie M20 wide-ratio 4-speed, 3.55 Positraction rear end, transistorized ignition, backup lights, Soft Ray-tinted windshield, a Delco AM/FM radio with power antenna, day/night inside mirror, full-size spinner wheel covers over goldline tires and aluminized off-road exhaust.
