Open the hood and one finds the 409 CI engine in its 425 HP configuration, with the double 4-barrel carburetion tucked up beneath the dual-snorkel chromed air cleaner and trademark W-shaped valve covers and headers funneling down toward the dual-exhaust system. A glimpse to the firewall reveals an updated braking system with power booster. Behind all that is a fresh 5-speed manual transmission, mated via a custom driveshaft to a 9-inch Ford limited-slip differential with 3.73 final gearing. The body is covered in Riverside Red paint with a gray soft top. The red theme carried over into the vinyl interior, where one finds bucket seats, a center consolette with ball-knob floor shifter, column-mounted tach pod, Super Sport steering wheel and a Pioneer sound system. The exterior retains a near-spartan appearance, with minimal chrome beyond the large bumpers and grille accenting the 1963’s noteworthy body lines, plus 409 crossed-flag front quarter emblems, dual rear-mount radio antennas, the satin-finished rear panel and turned-down exhaust exits. The brake system now uses 11-inch disc units under the front end, while the wheels chosen to complete this car are polished Torq Thrusts. Created with the idea of pleasurable operation, the “day two” status of this fabulous Impala SS has been completed, and it is ready to roll.
