This ground-up build started with an Art Morrison chassis, including front tubular A-arms and rear independent suspension, power steering and 4-wheel disc brakes with cross-drilled and slotted rotors. An upgraded small-block Chevrolet V-8 engine rests between the frame rails, and it’s equipped with an Edelbrock finned air cleaner and valve covers, a polished aluminum intake manifold, a serpentine accessory drive system, an aluminum radiator with thermostatically-controlled fan, headers and dual stainless exhaust. A Tremec 5-speed manual transmission handles gear changes to the 17-inch Cragar SS mag wheels with Kumho Ecsta ASX rolling stock.
The original 1961 Corvette body was given a thorough massage in the body shop, including the addition of a 2008 Z06-style hood scoop, grafted into the nose and sculpted to the hood that was shaped to match the Bill Mitchell design. Once in the spray booth, a burgundy metallic top coat with white coves was laid before the entire body was clear coated, and then a new black Haartz fabric soft top was installed. The interior is swathed in black leather accented with gray piping and polished brightwork. Other accoutrements include a Hurst shifter, thick-grip leather-wrapped steering wheel, Vintage Air climate control, power windows, a modernized tach and gauges, and a flat-screen stereo with navigation.
