When used in conjunction with Rochester fuel injection and the solid-lifter Duntov cam, they contributed to a rating of 315 HP, the highest ever in a production Corvette. They were dropped from production due to a high rate of faulty castings, but the same configuration returned in cast-iron for 1961, with the 315 HP rating along with it. Model-year 1961 also saw the first look at the new “ducktail” rear-end treatment first seen on the XP700 show car in 1958. The upswept tail and four round tail lights foreshadowed that of the 1963 Sting Ray, and a new mesh front-grille insert further distinguished the 1961 model from its forbearers. This concours-quality 1961 Corvette’s matching-numbers 283/315 HP Rochester fuel-injected engine shows the correct air cleaner, generator, distributor, spark-plug shields, hoses and clamps, incorporates aluminized exhaust and is teamed with a Borg Warner T-10 4-speed manual transmission.
