To that end, this car came with the largest engine application for the model, the new W-series big-block V-8, which displaced 348 CI and was rated at 280 HP thanks to the use of a tri-power carburetion design retained beneath the large-diameter twin-snorkel air cleaner seen here. For ease of driving, a Powerglide automatic transmission was employed, as are power steering and updated power brakes with a dual-circuit master cylinder. However, where this car truly shines is in its level of luxury, as the Impala also offered the most deluxe trim level available in the Chevrolet lineup. This car is covered in a deep black paint, augmented by a plethora of chrome trim and a white convertible top. Even the fresh use of quad headlamps did not erase the mild carryover heritage from the 1957 release, and the redesign carries a sensible amount of overall brawn. Inside are a black and teal interior combination of cloth and vinyl, featuring tri-tone seat and door-panel inserts, power windows, Vintage Air, impressive Impala trim accents and a pushbutton radio. The exterior features the desirable continental kit that allowed for added carrying space in the trunk, and the steel wheels are hidden with spinner-type full-size wheel covers and wide whitewall tires.
