1958 Chevrolet Corvette Big Brake Fuelie 290 HP V-8 engine

Description

Regal Turquoise with White coves
Fuel-injected 283/290 HP V-8 engine
4-speed manual transmission
4.11 Positraction rear end
Wonderbar AM radio
Charcoal interior
Auxiliary hardtop
the special suspension and brakes were only available when ordered with the 579D 283 CI Rochester fuel-injected V-8 rated at 290 HP on the strength of an improved injection unit, 10.5:1 compression and the high output Duntov solid-lifter cam. The BorgWarner 4-speed manual transmission and Positraction rear end, in this case with 4.11:1 gearing, were also required. A new underhood feature was a fresh air duct feeding a new air-cleaner assembly that channeled fresh air directly to the fuel-injection system. Also new for 1958 was an extensive overhaul of the Corvette’s front bodywork, the result of a new trend sweeping the industry, especially at GM: quad headlights. Set into chromed bezels from which a pair of chromed strips extended rearward, the new look also incorporated twin oval-shaped “nostrils” on either side of the trademark oval grille, which now carried nine vertical “teeth” in place of the former 13. More flash came in the form of non-functioning hood louvers and side cove vents, as well as a pair of chromed spears on the trunk lid. One of only 252 finished in Regal Turquoise with white coves
