Customized fiberglass rear fenders attach to an original steel Ford body that’s been finished with single-stage PPG blue paint. The roof is covered with proper black vinyl as original, and the body is shod with what seems to be acres of stunning Birdseye Maple woodwork. A cacophony of subtle and not-so-subtle details abound with this Woody, creating a feast for the eyes. Wrapped around custom slotted Schott wheels with spinner centers, low-profile redline tires provide the grip and a dynamically fashionable look, blending the old style redlines with modern low-profile design and technology.
The chassis was smoothed and boxed by Bobby Alloway Hot Rods and hosts a tubular front suspension with disc brakes, tubular midframe crossmembers and a custom 4-link rear suspension with billet adjustable coilover shocks. Powered by a Ford 302 CI V-8 crate engine topped with an Edelbrock Performer intake, a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive sends power to the rear wheels. A glance under the hood shows the clever flower-pattern valve covers and air cleaner the 302 has been dressed up with, and a closer look reveals a unique medium-tan colored engine block, manifold, water pump and more. Don’t miss the brightly polished nuts and bolts—it’s not hard to imagine the hula girl dancing when the engine is running.
The interior is a place of casual, beachy luxury with mahogany-colored leather upholstery, richly stained woods, a billet machine-turned dashboard and a vintage-looking mahogany wheel perched atop the Ididit tilt steering column. The floors are covered with soft carpets piped with matching vinyl, but the cargo floor is a unique, padded, teak-patterned material laser-engraved with a hula girl. The period-correct Coca-Cola cooler in the back comes with the car because it’s the battery housing. Restored with a loom from Painless Wiring and comfort by Vintage Air, this 1937 Ford Woody has travelled 1,070 miles since its completion and is likely looking forward to many more
